1
Go to the bargain supermarket in your area. Thanks to the widespread growth of the vegetarian movement, more people are vegan--and speaking out about the vegan lifestyle--than ever before. You can get the same food for much less than at "health food" stores.

2
Check out your local fast food restaurants when you need to grab something on the go. Avoid spending too much money on take-out at your favorite vegan restaurant. Taco Bell has options for the vegan. If you are in Los Angeles, Astro Burger offers vegan fast food fare. In fact, it has a vegetarian menu.

Write down how much you spend on food on a weekly basis. Chances are, you've spent less since becoming vegan. You probably haven't kept a food log before so there are no ways to compare it. If a friend who isn't vegan is also keeping a food log, it can be interesting to see where the bulk of money goes. It's different for everybody, depending on your individual diet. As a whole, vegans tend to spend less than there omnivore counterparts. Meat is increasingly expensive, and the market reflects that.

4
Donate any items that you purchased before going vegan to a local Goodwill store. PETA may even take some of your purchases. When you donate items to a charity, ask for a tax receipt. Come the end of the year, you can get a tax break for donating what you can no longer wear due to your moral decisions. Spend some money on a nice vegan coat that has style and flair in a way that no hideous fur coat can match!

Clip coupons. Manufacturers want people to try the wonderful vegan products out there. Businesses know that once you've tasted what you are afraid of, you'll likely come back for more, vegan or not. The food is just that good. Take advantage of the many coupons offered so that your pocketbook gets a break when it comes to settling the vegan food score (see Resources below).
