How to Make Rainbow Crayons

Every family with young kids has at least one basket of old and broken crayons laying around. Sometimes just moving the couch will yield a bounty of old and broken crayons in hiding. Gather all your old crayons for a fun rainbow crayon-making project the kids will love. Plus when you're done, you'll have gorgeous rainbow crayons and those old crayon lives won't have been wasted.

Things You'll Need

  • Muffin tin
  • Mini muffin tin, if available
  • Aluminum foil
  • Butter
  • Old crayons

Instructions

    • 1

      Peel all the paper from the old crayons. This will keep the kids busy for awhile.

      Have the kids break up the crayons into little pieces.

      Set out a well-greased mini-muffin tin or regular muffin tin. You can use aluminum foil in the muffin tins if you prefer.

      Have the kids put pieces of different colored crayons into each of the muffin tins.

      Bake the filled tin in a 400 degree oven for 4 minutes. Allow it to cool before removing the melted crayon. Ensure the crayons are solidified before letting kids touch them. Now the kids have rainbow crayons to color with.
