CivCity: Rome is a city building PC game that will take you into a journey of greatness. Build an empire and renew the splendor that was ancient Rome. In this game you will create your own city from scratch to fulfill mission or campaign objectives. You will oversee the development of the culture of your society through your actions. It is a balance of agriculture, civil, economics, culture, military and technology.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the game. Choose a single mission or campaign. Select your level of difficulty: easy, medium or hard. Read the objectives carefully.

    • 2

Look at the land you have available. Some terrain will be mountainous, flat lands, rocky or desert regions. Click on the “house” icon and choose the “Town Center”. Choose a spot you would like it to be and click to place it. People will now start arriving in your town.

    • 3

Build homes for your citizens. Click on the house icon and choose the shack. Place a few homes nearby your town center. Roads should also be placed to create a pathway for faster and easier travel. The people are your most valuable resource and must be kept happy. Food, water and homes should always be available. Initially, the food requirements of the people are simple. Build a goat farm, butcher shop and granary. For water, click on the well and place it nearby the homes you built. Once you have built the basic foundation you are ready to focus on your mission goals.

    • 4

Check your “Civilization Status.” Click on the scroll icon located at the top right of your computer screen. This section will give you a lot of valuable information. “City Happiness” will let you know how satisfied your people are with money, food, religion and technological advances. “Finances” will show a balance sheet of your profits and losses. “Military” will give statistics on current battle information.

    • 5

Work on your mission goals. You can review them by clicking on the red icon at the top left of your screen. Research technology (click on the “Research” button at the top of your screen) to help improve production and raise cultural status. Watch your Civilization Status reports to see your progress. Once you have completed all objectives, you will win the single mission or campaign scenario you have selected. If you want to beat the game in its entirety, you will need to win all missions and campaigns.

Tips & Warnings

  • For agricultural scenarios, build lots of farms of the product you need to produce. Be aware of your current population and do not place too many at once. Build a storage facility for farmers to place their goods in. Research all agricultural technology items for larger production and more efficient farming.

  • In military missions you will need to build forts and weapons as quickly as possible. Place your forts in the location that will best protect your town area. For weapons, the two types available are the javelin and sword. For swords, you will need iron to produce them. If your land has the ore available, place iron mines to extract it and sword maker shops to build them. Javelins require wood. Locate an area nearby with trees to place a wood cutter facility. Build a javelin maker shop to build them. Research any technology that will help make your fighters better or improve your weapons production.

  • You will need to import resources if your land does not have them available. Set up a trade agreement with the closest town that has it available. If the trade route is by land, build a trader facility in town. Your workers will travel by donkey to the town, purchase items you need and bring them back.

  • For water trade routes, a port and trading boats must be built. The ships will then sail to obtain the goods and bring them back to your port. Make sure there are storage facilities available to place any items purchased through trades.

  • Civ City: Rome missions that focus on high culture and population require a close watch on your “City Happiness” reports. Click on individual homes to see if their needs are being met. If they are, you can build items to upgrade their homes (see these on the right when you click on their home)

  • Research all technology to help improve food production, civil practices, education and religion.

  • Beautify your city by adding gardens, statues and architectural wonders (if applicable). As population grows, add more homes and watch your food production.

  • Occasionally you will get requests from the Senate. Consider these a priority and produce the items they need as quickly as possible since most are on time limits. Click on the “Requests from the Senate” report (in the Civilization Status screen) to keep an eye on your progress.

  • Watch your money closely. In many missions, you can lose by simply running out of money (Denarii). Loans are available, but are limited in amount. Research the technology that will improve tax and sale profit revenues.
