Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Consider your crafting skills. Choose a project and medium that you are familiar with. For example, if you love to sew, make a gift that involves sewing. Don't sign up for a knitting class in October in hopes of knitting a blanket for everyone in the family by December.
-
Step 2
Make a gift that the recipient can enjoy. If you plan to build them a cabinet for collectibles or sew them a quilt, make sure first that actually have collectibles or they live somewhere chilly.
-
Step 3
Include something meaningful to the two of you in the gift. Think back to a time or event involving your loved one that was very meaningful to you. Use a photo, quote or other way of invoking that event when your loved one gets her gift. If you had a fun weekend together at the beach, then add some beach-themed fabrics into the quilt you're making or put a small bottle with sand and shells into the cabinet you built.
-
Step 4
Personalize the gift. It is a small touch that makes a handmade gift even more special. If you knit a sweater as a gift, sew a tag inside that says, "For Jack. Love, Jill." If you make a bookmark or other paper craft, write the recipient's name right on your craft, or inscribe a special little note in a hidden place.
-
Step 5
Make the gift with love. Whether you believe it or not, when you make an item with love, it comes out in the final product. Think about the person you're making the gift for while you work on it. Your labor of love with result in a fabulous, handmade gift.
