The appearance of your Twitter screen can be customized to suit your preferences. In addition to the profile picture, you can change the background image and color, the link color and the header photo.
Changing the Theme
The theme appears on your Twitter home page. To change it, log in to your account on a computer.
Go to your user profile by clicking the thumbnail profile picture in the top right corner of the home screen. This reveals a drop-down list.
From this list, click on Settings to open a new menu on the left side of the screen.
Click on Design to display two sections: Pick a Premade Theme and Customize Your Own.
The pre-made themes are displayed first. If you like one of these, click on the thumbnail and then on Save Changes.
To customize your theme, upload a background image. Twitter doesn't allow animations, but PNG, GIF and JPG files up to 2MB in size are allowed. Click on Change Background and choose an image to upload. You can then select Tile Background, Center, Left or Right to position the image.
Twitter accepts images up to 1820 by 1080 pixels for background images, but only about 207 pixels on each side of the timeline can be seen.
Next, choose the Background Color and Theme Color. Clicking in each box opens a color field from which to choose.
Click on Save Changes at the bottom of the screen to save your selections and refresh the page with your new theme.
You only see the changes after you click the Save Changes button.
Changing the Header
The header is the field behind the profile picture at the top of the user profile page.
Click on the thumbnail profile picture on your home screen again and choose View Profile. Click on Edit Profile on the right side of the screen.
Click the camera icon and select a picture if this is the first time you are changing the header.
If you are replacing or deleting an existing photo, choose one of two options: Upload Photo or Remove. If you don't want any header photo, click Remove. To change to a different photo, click Upload Photo.
Choose a PNG, GIF and JPG image and click Open. Twitter resizes the image to 520 by 260 pixels to fill the area and recommends uploading a photo at least twice that size for the best image quality. Depending on the size, you have the option to crop it to fit. Click Apply to set the image.
