Step 1
Cleanse and exfoliate face prior to makeup application. It is important that your skin is at its best because there will not be any evident makeup to detract onlookers' attention from what appears to be your bare face.
-
Step 2
Dot a makeup primer on face and blend. Use a tinted moisturizer to help even out skin tone. If you prefer to use a touch more coverage, your other options include a mousse and a liquid foundation. As long as you pick one that matches your skin tone, you will be able to get away with looking naturally flawless. Make sure to use a makeup wedge to blend the product on eyelids and under-eye area, as well as around the nose and mouth to camouflage any discoloration there. Dust translucent powder over face with a large fluffy brush to set base and sweep away shine.
-
Step 3
Tweeze and trim stray and bushy hairs from your brows. A clean brow line frames the eyes and face attractively even without any color definition in the area. If you have many gaps in your brows, however, you can fill them in with a brow powder that matches your brows or is slightly darker if yours are very pale. Use a small stiff angled brush and feather-light strokes to fill your entire brow in for an effect that is soft and natural.
-
Step 4
Define eyes subtly by using a creamy eyeliner in black if you are dark-skinned, or brown if you are lighter complected. You aren't going to line your eyes with the pencil, but are instead filling in the spaces in between each lash with color. Use a black or gray liquid eyeliner above top lash lines only, keeping the line very thin and close to lashes. Curl lashes before swiping on a black or dark brown mascara. Position the wand at the base of your lashes and wiggle upwards to dispense the most product at the base and less at the ends, where you especially do not want clumping. Two coats at the most is all that is necessary. Use a waterproof formula to prevent smudges. Dislodge any clumps with a lash comb so your lashes appear genuinely thick and not made up.
-
Step 5
Work a thin layer of mousse or creme blush onto the apples of your cheeks. A sheer one that flatters your coloring is all you need: Light pink for fair ladies, rose for medium complexions, peach for olive skin tones and mauve for those in the darker range. Blend the edges of the product away to get rid of any streaks. On moisturized lips, pat a lip stain or creme lipstick that is about two notches more vibrant than your natural color. Use clean fingers for a blotted finish.
