A Mango Mojito is a trendy new drink, served at several restaurants and nightclubs, and is a fantastic twist on a traditional Mojito. While ready to use mix is widely available, a Mango Mojito made from scratch tastes much better and really is not difficult to mix. Here's how to make a fantastic made from scratch Mango Mojito.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2oz Bacardi Limon
  • 2oz Mango puree (see tips below)
  • 1oz Simple Syrup OR 1tsp superfine sugar
  • 8 Mint leaves, plus one sprig of Mint for garnish
  • Club soda
  • 1oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 lime wedge OR 3 slices lime (about a quarter of a lime total)
  • Sugar to frost rim of glass
  • Tumbler to mix
  • Muddler (see tips below)
  1. Step 1

Chop your mint leaves coarsely, you don't want them totally shredded for your Mango Mojito, but cut enough to fully release mint flavor when muddled. Place mint leaves in bottom of glass tumbler, or mortar.

  2. Step 2

Add limes and mango puree, and top with simple syrup. If you prefer, you may just use a tsp of superfine sugar. Add Bacardi Limon on top. Using either a pestle or the handle end of a sturdy utensil, mash together Mango Mojito ingredients well. If using a mortar and pestle, carefully scrape out all ingredients into a glass tumbler at this point.

  3. Step 3

Add ice to your Mango Mojito mix, then fill with club soda. Pour the Mango Mojito back and forth between two tumblers until it is well mixed, being careful to not shake too hard. Shaking too hard can release all the carbonation from the club soda. Set aside.

  4. Step 4

Place about a quarter cup of granulated sugar on a plate. Rub a slice of lime around rim of your cocktail glass, being sure to coat the rim with lime juice. Dip rim of glass in sugar. Tap glass to remove excess sugar, and carefully pour your home made Mango Mojito into sugar frosted glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a wedge of lime. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Simple syrup, also known as bar syrup, is easy to make to have on hand for cocktails. It's simply sugar and water. You may skip making this and just use a tsp of superfine sugar instead.
  • If you're having trouble finding mango puree, Daily's Mango Daquiri mixer is a good substitute. If you're in a real pinch trying to find even that, Mango baby food is a great alternative, it's all natural and the texture is just right.
  • You may also make mango puree by dicing mango and mixing in a blender with a tad bit of water. Some restaurants use a puree that's not completely smooth, the texture is a nice addition to this recipe.
  • To muddle fruit in a cocktail recipe is simply to mash it with sugar and spirits to infuse your drink with flavor. It's simple to do with a sturdy handle of a utensil such as a wooden spoon. Mash ingredients well, stir a little, and mash a little more. It will look like mush, but will pay off with great flavors!

on 10/21/2008 Mojito is one drink that really shows the difference when making from scratch versus buying the pre made stuff.... fresh mint, alone, makes a huge difference !
