Things You'll Need:
- Liquid eyeliner
- Pencil eyeliner
- Cotton swabs
-
Step 1
Play around with your eyeliner until you find a look that suits you or ask a cosmetologist at your local makeup counter for advice.
-
Step 2
Already have purchased your liquid or pencil eyeliner. Be sure to already have put on your concealer, foundation, and eye shadow before applying eyeliner. This should be toward the end but always before applying mascara.
-
Step 3
Depending on your eye shape, start from the inner eye and bring the applicator brush or pencil out to as far as you would like the eyeliner. Do the outline of the shape you prefer and then fill the rest in. Try to keep a steady hand in doing this. There are five eye shapes: round, oval, large, close together, and farther apart. Apply the eyeliner according to what eye shape you have:ROUNDUse eyeliner to outline your eyes starting at the inner base of the top eyelid and continue toward the outer corner, giving you a tail-like look or wing. OVALStart a fine line at the inner base of your eyelid all the way out to the end, not extending the length of your eye since it's already oval. Now go back and thicken the middle to give it a more open look.CLOSE TOGETHERIf your eyes are close together, you want to make them look as if they are more spread apart. Draw your eyeliner thick at the inner base of the eye and thinner toward the end.FARTHER APART Start your eyeliner a bit away from the inner corner of your eye and thicken it as you get to the end.LARGERLarge is good so just define the shape by drawing a thick line from the inner base to the outer.

Step 4
If you mess up, dip a cotton swab in water, squeeze some out so its damp, not soaked, and clean off the unwanted smudge or line. Apply some foundation/concealer if you removed some and it is noticeable, and try again.
