Many individuals enjoy dressing up in a variety of different costumes during the Halloween season. Since there are so many different body types out there, it is obvious that different costumes would be flattering to some individuals while not so flattering on others. It’s important to know that simple Halloween fashion blunders are avoidable. In order to choose a flattering Halloween costume there are several things you must consider.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know your body type. One of the simplest tips in choosing Halloween costume is to know your body type. Understand what your best assets are and show them off. For example, if you have great cleavage, wear a Playboy bunny costume. On the contrary, if you’re insecure about your legs, find a costume that is longer or opt to wear tan pantyhose.

  2. Step 2

Go by the fit. In order for a costume to look flattering, it must fit you correctly. Don’t wear a costume that feels a little too tight or even a little too big. If you do, it’s likely you will be constantly adjusting your costume throughout the night. Instead, be honest with yourself. If you have to get a bigger size or even a smaller size, do it.

  3. Step 3

Don’t worry about conformation. Depending on the year, different Halloween costumes are in vogue. However, many of these costumes don’t suit every body type out there. Instead, make a point to choose a costume that you like and feel comfortable wearing. If it happens to be one of the recent trends, go with it. If not, don’t.

  4. Step 4

Always try it on. While you can order costumes online without trying them on, this usually isn’t the best idea. If the size is incorrect you’ll have to return it, which is clearly a hassle. Instead, look for Halloween stores in your area and find your costume there.

  5. Step 5

Alter it. If you find a costume that you must have and it needs to be slightly altered, take it to a tailor. This will ensure that your costume is the perfect fit. Keep in mind that altering a costume may also significantly alter the price.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go with a friend to try on costumes. You’ll have a good time and get an honest opinion.
  • Don’t wait until the last minute to get alterations. This will increase the price and it’s possible that the tailor won’t be able to finish it in time for Halloween.
