This article will help you avoid feeding your dog toxic and/or poisonous foods.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prior to offering your dog any "homemade" food, ensure that you have reviewed the following lists...

  2. Step 2

Note the following human foods that are toxic to dogs: grapes or raisins, chocolate (any type), macadamia nuts, pear seeds, plum pits, peach and apricot pits, apple seeds, mushrooms, persimmons, raw eggs, raw fish, yeast dough, rhubarb leaves, pear skins & stems, potato & tomato leaves or stems, potato skins, and any vegetable from the onion family (onions, garlic, green onions, onion powder, leeks, etc.)

  3. Step 3

Note the following human foods that are dangerous for dogs: milk and dairy products (too much can lead to diarrhea), animal fat, fried foods, caffeinated foods (coffee, coffee grinds, coffee beans, tea, soda), citrus oil extracts, any alcohol, and any moldy food

Tips & Warnings
  • Contact your pet's vet for treatment for any toxins and poisons your pet has ingested.
  • Note that many of the foods on the "toxic" list are only toxic to dogs when eaten in excess. For example, most dogs will need to consume hundreds of grapes for them to display reactions.
  • Owners should take their dog's weight into consideration if their pet consumes a toxic or dangerous foods are ingested. For example, a small portion of grapes may not be adverse to a large dog, whereas to a "toy" breed small portions may be toxic.

on 10/12/2008 I like this stuff. I didn't know onions were toxic. I knew they sure give them gas and that is toxic.
