How to Make a Cornflake Holiday Wreath

This fun, realistic wreath just gets better looking when you find out that you can eat it.

This fun and tasty holiday wreath does double duty on your holiday table as a delightful centerpiece and a tempting treat. This wreath is made of cornflakes, but you can use any type of crunchy cereal that you like to achieve different effects and textures.

Things You'll Need

• 30 marshmallows
• 1/2 cup of butter
• 1 tsp. of vanilla
• 2 tsp. of green food coloring
• 3 1/2 cups of cornflakes
• Candied cherries
• Red hots
• Round platter
• White pillar candle
• Large plastic mixing bowl
• Wooden spoon
• Rubber spatula
• Vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Microwave the marshmallows, vanilla, food coloring and butter until they are completely melted. Once they are hot and liquid, remove the bowl from the microwave.

2. Gradually stir in the cornflakes. Stir them carefully so that you do not break them. As you stir, make sure that the green food coloring is worked through the entire mixture and coats the cornflakes completely so that they are entirely green.

3. Mold the sticky mixture into a wreath shape on the round platter. If you have trouble manipulating the marshmallow mixture, then rub a little vegetable oil on a rubber spatula and your hands for easier handling. Drop several lumps of the marshmallow mix around the edge of the platter, then mold them into a wreath shape.

4. Garnish the wreath with the candied cherries and red hots. Do this as soon as you finish molding the wreath while the corn flakes are still sticky. You should be able to just press them on and they will stay.

5. Allow the wreath to set up for at least 12 hours. If you do not have that long, you can refrigerate it for about 2 hours.

6. Place the pillar candle in the center of the wreath. Now it is ready to adorn your holiday buffet or become a festive, delicious centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings

• Other cereals that work well with this are honeycomb cereals, other types of flake cereals and rice crispies. Different cereals will change the texture and density of your wreath.
