How to Reprogram a Verizon Phone
Programming a Verizon phone is necessary any time there are big changes made on an account. Reprogramming can also be used to manually assign the cell phone to a new tower.
Instructions
-
-
1
Go to your phone's home screen with no menus open. Ensure that you are within service range.
-
2
Dial *228 and push "Send" to complete the call to the activation service. A screen will appear over the call timer that says "Programming in Progress..." and you should hear a voice recording say, "Welcome to Verizon Wireless Over-The-Air Programming."
-
-
3
Press 1 for initial programming. This option is used if the phone has been deactivated or is being activated for the first time.
-
4
Press 2 to update roaming information and to download a free software upgrade to enable better roaming coverage. Pressing 2 and choosing this option will assign your phone to another tower that should enable better reception, especially when roaming.

Also, instead of pressing "1" and then "2", you can just dial *22899 and it skips through the other options for the same results. Verizon users should do this every month, especially if they travel internationally. (You cannot update or reprogram out of the United States). It helps to keep your cell phone updated with any feature changes or programming. -
