Things You'll Need:
- Sturdy wooden hangers
- High gloss paint
- Paint brush
- Fine grade sand paper
- Soft rag
- Decals or stickers
- Permanent marker or permanent paint marker
-
Step 1
Lightly sand the surface of the wood hanger, so that it will help the paint bond. Make sure you wipe off the surface with a soft rag or cloth after you have sanded
-
Step 2
Paint the whole wooden surface of the hanger. Don't paint the metal hanging hook. Use paints that either go with the room décor or are a favorite color of the person who will be using the hanger. A high gloss paint is best to use. It will stand up to usage and be smoother for the clothing to slide over.
-
Step 3
Use long, smooth and even strokes while you paint. Make sure you get every spot of the wood covered, even in the crevices. Then let the paint dry completely. You don’t want it to be tacky at all just smooth and dry to the touch. Check the label of your paint can to see their recommended drying times. After the first coat of paint do a second coat, let it dry completely, then lightly sand it again. Wipe it off clean with the rag again. You don’t want any rough spots on the surface of the paint where fabrics can get snagged.
-
Step 4
Make sure the dust residue from sanding is off of the hanger, and the paint surface is clean before you start decorating the hangar. Decorate the painted surface of the hangar with decals, stickers or permanent markers of some kind. Paint markers work well. Decals or stickers come in many designs, including letters and numbers. You can personalize the hanger with theme decals or stickers, or add names or initials to truly make it individual.
