How to Get Rid of Itchy Red Bumps on Skin

Red, itchy bumps can be caused by a number of irritants such as bug bites, chiggers and even stress. It is important to find the cause of the red, itchy bumps in order to identify and rid your environment of any skin irritants. Otherwise, the red, itchy bumps will continue to resurface.

Things You'll Need

  • Acetaminophen or painkiller (optional)
  • Calamine lotion or baking soda paste
  • Cotton ball
  • Hydrocortisone cream (1%)
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (optional)
  • Ice cube
  • Soap
  • Water
  • Wash the affected area with soap and water. Pat it dry with a towel.

  • Put the calamine lotion or baking soda paste on a cotton ball. Lightly rub the affected area with the cotton ball. This will help ease the itching. If itching is really bad, apply a dab of hydrocortisone cream to the area.

  • If there is swelling or extreme redness, take acetaminophen or other painkiller to ease the symptoms.

  • If pain persists, take an ice cube and rub the surrounding area.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can use sensitive soap to clean the area, do so. Regular soap could irritate the area a bit more.
  • Avoid scratching. If itching is causing major problems, apply pressure to the area with your fingertip or a pen cap. You can also swab the area with peroxide.
