There are some simple and very basic steps to look camera ready. For women, this includes age-appropriate makeup, a flattering color palette, dressing for fit and comfort and a natural hairstyle. Because the camera doesn’t lie, preparation is key.

    How to Look Camera Ready

  1. Step 1

Calm unruly hair. Hair is a funny fixation, but it has the ability to make you stand out like a sore thumb in photographs. It is probably one of the first things that people notice. Do not try to force a square peg into a round hole. If your hair is naturally curly, then find products that infuse shine, definition and moisture. The camera will pick up shiny, healthy hair that has not been forced. Whether your hair is fine, coarse, curly or straight, there is a product that will enhance shine. Healthy, shiny hair will be picked up by the camera; however, an overly coiffed hairdo loaded with unnecessary styling products will also. Work with your hair type rather than against it.

  2. Step 2

Use makeup that enhances. When looking at photographs, this is one area that women have the most difficulty. Makeup should enhance natural beauty rather than overwhelm it. The aging population has trouble in this area. As skin begins to age, heavy foundations and powders that once made them look flawless will now accentuate fine lines, deep wrinkles or skin problems. For camera ready skin, make sure to use products that accentuate natural beauty without accentuating flaws. The 30-something crowd and beyond should eliminate products with glitter and shine unless blessed with perfectly flawless skin. This avoids bringing flaws to the forefront during a camera session.

  3. Step 3

Discover your color palette. This is one area where many women go wrong. We all have an array of colors that we naturally look good in. Women are categorized by skin tone and perhaps hair and eye color. Determine which colors are flattering and stick with that color palette. If a woman loves black but looks terrible in it, then she will not be attractive in pictures. Colors have the ability to make a woman look vibrant and beautiful, but they also have the ability to make her look gaunt, pasty and washed out in pictures. Stand before a mirror and notice which colors of clothing are flattering and attractive. When an event is sure to become a photo opportunity, take note and choose colors that bring you alive!

  4. Step 4

Wear clothing that fits well. Clothing with an ill fit not only feels uncomfortable but it is distracting as well. If someone is consistently adjusting clothing, they will not have a good time and the ill fit will show up in pictures. My advice is to only purchase clothing that fits well and is comfortable in a variety of settings. It is better to have a few pieces of quality clothing rather than many pieces of clothing that fit poorly. In pictures, fit is critical.

  5. Step 5

Pull it all together. Once a woman has figured out how to work with her natural hairstyle instead of against it, half of the battle is already won. When a woman knows what works for her particular skin tone, coloring her world becomes second nature. Fashion can be a brilliant and defining trademark for any woman if she caters to fit and comfort.
