How to Get Rid of Crabs

Contracting a case of lice is not only kind of disturbing, thinking of all those little bugs crawling all over you, but also very annoying because of all the itching that results from the nasty little bites. As if all that weren't enough, when word gets out that you have lice even your closest friends and family are likely to treat you like you have just contracted a bad case of Ebola. So, what could be worse than all of this? Catching a case of crabs, or pubic lice is sure to be even more bothersome and embarrassing. So, if you find yourself battle a case of crabs, read the steps below to learn how to rid yourself of the little bugs.

  • Refrain from all sexual contact with others until you are able to get rid of the pubic lice. Crabs can easily be transferred from one partner to another through close contact, so you should avoid such close contact with others to save them the hassle of having to deal with crabs themselves.

  • Do not think that you are going to rid yourself of crabs completely simply by shaving your pubic area, as this is not the case. Other measures will have to be taken. Shaving will probably only make the itching worse. It is advisable, however, that you trim your pubic hair down to make it easier for you to treat the area.

  • Consult a physician if you are not comfortable choosing an over-the-counter treatment for your crabs.

  • Purchase an over-the-counter lice shampoo, such as RID, as your local drugstore and follow the instructions that come with the kit. Remember to check the over-the-counter lice treatment kit's instructions and warnings before using it on your pubic area to make sure that it is safe for that kind of use.

  • Try the old home remedy of washing your hair with vinegar and a washcloth until the crabs are gone.

  • Comb your hair repeatedly with a fine tooth comb to remove the dead crabs and their eggs from your pubic region. You should perform a close inspection of the area using a mirror to make sure that you have rid the area of all the crabs.

  • Wash all your clothing and bedding to rid them of any crabs that may be hiding out, waiting for a chance to make you their new home all over again.
