How to Convert Word to PDF

Microsoft Word is a common word processor. Adobe's PDF file format is a cross-platform document distribution format. Although versions of Word from Word 2007 have a "Save as" feature to create PDF documents from Word, older Word versions don't have this feature. But you can use Google Document Reader to convert your Word document to a PDF file.

Instructions

In Word 2010, the PDF conversion feature is built-in. To use it, click the "File" menu and select "Save As." In the "File Name" box, type an appropriate file name. In the "Save as type" list, select "PDF (*.pdf)." Click "Save" to save the file in the PDF format.

In Word 2007, you can save your Word document as a PDF file. To do so, download and install a free Office add-in from the Microsoft Download Center (Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=7).

In older versions of Word, proceed to the next step.

If you haven't already done so, create a Google account by navigating to Google Accounts (google.com/accounts/NewAccount). Log in to your Google account and navigate to the Documents section (docs.google.com/#all).

    • 3

Click "Upload" then click "Browse." Navigate to your Word document and click "Open." Then click "Upload File." Your document is now open in Google Docs.

    • 4

From the "File" menu, select "Download File as" and "PDF."

    • 5

Save the file to an easy to find place. Your PDF file is complete and any links in the original document will work.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to remove the document from Google online storage if it is sensitive information.
