How to Build a fire in a fireplace

The definitive guide to creating a warm crackling fire that will last for hours.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• a fireplace
• firewood
• newspaper
• kindling
• lighter/matches

1. Place a midsize (6-inch diameter) log near the rear wall of the fireplace. This is your "back log."

2. Stuff newspaper under and in front of the back log. Arrange dry, thin sticks of kindling on top of the papter, propping them against the back log.

3. Place another midsize log a few inches in front of and parallel to the back log and a third log diagonally on top of the two.

4. Light the newspaper. Stoke the fire, occasionally, adding more logs as necessary.
