How to Make a Santa Claus Handprint Ornament

A Santa Claus handprint ornament is a cute craft that you or your child can make to brighten your home for the holiday season. Children will have fun getting to play with paint while helping to decorate for Christmas. All you need to make this adorable craft is paper, paint and a few other basic supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • Red and white finger or craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Green construction or poster paper
  • Red ribbon or yarn
  • Hole punch
  • Gold or silver glitter (optional)
  • Glue (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Black and red markers
  • Cotton balls (optional)
  • Wiggly craft eyes (optional)
  • Place a sheet of green poster or construction paper onto a flat work surface.

  • Paint the tip of your child's thumb with white craft paint and the rest of the thumb with red craft paint. Then paint the bottom of her palm with red craft paint. This will be Santa's hat.

  • Paint the rest of her hand, including her fingers, with white craft paint. This will be Santa's face and beard.

  • Lay your child's painted hand flat on the sheet of green construction paper and press all areas of the hand down firmly on the paper.

  • Lift your child's hand. Fill in any empty areas of your handprint Santa with paint from a paintbrush. Sometimes an area of the hand will not touch the paper, so you will have to fill it in yourself.

  • Cut a circle around the handprint Santa to make a round ornament for your Christmas tree.

  • Punch a hole in the top of your ornament and thread a piece of red ribbon or yarn through it, and display it on your tree or in other areas of your home.
