Triple Triad Game Board

Final Fantasy VIII was released in 1999 and quickly became one of the most successful games in the Final Fantasy series. It earned 50 million USD in its first 13 weeks, making it the fastest selling game in the Final Fantasy series up until that point. Final Fantasy VIII has a mini game within it called Triple Triad. It is a card game that can earn you more character cards throughout the game. Knowing the simple rules and a few basic strategies can ensure you get a few extra Triad cards on your way to victory.

Instructions

    • 1

Learn the basic rules of Triple Triad while playing Final Fantasy VIII. The rules are simple. When you place a card next to an enemy card, the two numbers that are facing each other face off against each other. If the card that you placed on the board is higher than the enemy card's number that is facing it, then the enemy card is flipped to your color. If the enemy card number is higher, nothing happens. For a card to be flipped, a card must be placed next to it that beats it.

    • 2

Learn the separate rules. Different areas in the Final Fantasy VIII world will have different rules. Make sure you know exactly what you are risking due to the rules before playing anyone.

    • 3

Keep in mind that higher numbers count. If there is an "A" on the card, then that A counts as a 10, and cannot be beat. An ideal selection of the 5 cards you use would be 5 cards with "A" as all 4 values on the card, but this will not happen. The higher your numbers, the better.

    • 4

Place a card on the board if you go first. If possible, you should get the lowest numbers on your card facing a wall. For instance, if you have a 1 or 2 on the left side of your card, it is a good idea to put your card against the left wall. This will prevent your opponent from taking advantage of the low number and taking your card.

    • 5

Take advantage of your opponent's lower numbers. If your opponent takes one of your cards with a high number, but has a low number on a different side of the card, use that weakness against him. It is best to use a card that can beat his card and protect itself on other sides.

    • 6

Try to obtain higher numbered cards throughout the game. If you win a game and get to choose one card from your opponent, choose the highest valued card. A card with an "A" on it, or more than one "A," along with other high numbers is a good choice.

    • 7

Pay attention to your numbers if you have more than one spot that you can take an opponent's card at. For instance, if your opponents card is in the bottom left hand corner, and you can take it by placing your card above or beside it, make your choice based on the bottom and left number on your card. If you have a low number on your left side, it is probably best to place your card above the enemy card, as the left wall will now be protecting you. Likewise, if you have a low bottom number, you should place it beside your enemy card, as the bottom wall will now protect the low number.

Keep practicing and learning the different rules for different areas.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that if you are playing the "All" local rule and you lose, you will lose all of the cards you played with to your opponent.
