Empty Plastic Water Bottle

You may be wondering what to do with those empty plastic water bottles lying around your home. Sure, you can throw them in the recycling bin, but it’s better to use them around your home, if possible. Here are some simple ways to reuse water bottles.

Instructions

  1. How to Reuse Empty Water Bottles

    • 1

Make a change jar. Dry out the bottle, then cut the top off to create a wide opening. You now have a change jar.

    • 2

Construct a new toy for your cat. Throw some uncooked rice into the water bottle and seal it tightly. Don’t put in too much, or it’ll just weigh it down. The cat will enjoy chainge it around.

    • 3

Fill the bottle with water, seal it tightly, then put it in the freezer. When it freezes, you have a good ice pack. Wrap a thin towel around it, then place it on the sore part of your body.

    • 4

Make a vase. Cut off the top of the bottle, fill it with water about an inch below the edge, then put your flowers in. If you would like it to look a bit nicer, glue a piece of fabric onto the bottle or simply tie a ribbon around the top edge.

    • 5

Create a pencil holder. Cut the top off of the plastic water bottle so that it is about half the size of a pencil. Fill half of it with uncooked rice. If you want the outside to look nicer, paint it with designs or glue some scrap-booking material to the bottle.

    • 6

Use as a holder for your elastic hair ties. This can be done one of two ways. Either wrap the hair tie around the bottle itself or put the elastic hair ties inside. If you choose to put them inside, cut the top off so you create a small cup where they can sit. Both are great ways to keep them organized and prevent them from being lost.

Tips & Warnings

  • The edges may be a bit rough after you cut the top off. Rub the cut area down a bit to remove the jagged edges.

  • Make sure to clean, wash and dry out the bottle thoroughly before use.

I don't know if this counts as reusing water bottles(I recycle them anyways) but the water in the town I live in isn't the best to drink so we have to get bottled water to drink. Inevitably there are often half drunk bottles laying around every now and then, instead of pouring the water down the drain and putting the bottle in the recycle bin, I always check the cats and dogs water bowls to see if they could use the extra water. If not, I water a houseplant with it.
