How to Create a Smart Mailbox in Mac OS X Mail

Keep track of your Mac OS X Mail by using options ranging from the name or subject of a recipient, member of a group or even by attachment. Using the Smart Mailbox feature is a great way to organize your mail on a Mac.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mail
  1. Step 1

    In an open Finder window, navigate to Application/Mail and double click your Mail application to launch it.

    In the lower left-hand corner of Mail, Click on the "+" icon and drag the cursor to the "Smart Mailbox" to create a new Smart Mailbox.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the “From” tab and the “Contains” tab to select the option you wish to use for your Smart Mailbox. You can also include other options such as the inclusion of sent messages and trashed messages. Fill in the text box to include email addresses or domains you wish to include in your Smart Mailbox. Click OK.

  4. Step 4

    Your new Smart Mailbox will include all of the messages that meet your matching criteria from step 3. All of your mail will still be available in your regular mailboxes, the Smart Mailbox acts as an alias filter, only showing the mail matching your criteria and leaves the original email unchanged.
