How to Make Hanging Snowflakes
Wintertime brings images of snowflakes gently falling from the sky. Make a bunch of these snowflakes to hang from your front porch or insde your windows to create a beautiful look. The weatherproof paper allows them to last outside, and if packed away carefully they can be used year after year. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Weatherproof paper 8 1/2 by 11 inches
- Snowflake template (optional)
- Scissors
- Fishing line
- Hole punch

Lay a sheet of paper on your work surface with the long edges lying horizontal.

Fold the upper righthand corner down to the bottom long edge.

Crease the paper.

Cut off the overlap of paper on the left side. You will have a triangle left.

Fold the bottom right corner up to meet the top corner and crease the paper.

Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner and crease.

Fold one more time, bringing the bottom right corner up to meet the top corner and crease. Do not open the paper out.

Cut out a snowflake shape. Use either a snowflake template (see Resources below) or cut it freehand.

Open out the snowflake and punch a hole in the top and bottom.

Repeat Steps 1 through 9 for the remaining snowflakes you wish to cut out. The number of snowflakes will be determined by where you are hanging them and how many you need.

Attach the snowflakes together by tying the fishing line through the holes.

Tie the top snowflake to the roof of your front porch or railing using either removable hooks or tape.

Tie the bottom of the garland to your railing.

Cut out lots of different snowflake shapes.
Hang a few snowflake garlands from a tree.
Add glitter to the snowflakes before hanging for a glittery effect.
Supervise younger children when using scissors.
