Christmas is one of the best seasons for craft-making. Along with the peace on earth and goodwill to all men comes a sizable dose of the creative crafting bug to fuel you to even greater Christmas craft heights. This year, keep your Christmas tree from looking like the generic shopping mall Christmas trees and give it a homemade touch with these easy-to-make country classic dried lotus seed pod ornaments.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 dried lotus seed pods
  • 1 bag small red craft pom-poms
  • 1 bag small green craft pom-poms
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Wire, ribbon, yarn or string
  1. Step 1

Find a craft store that sells dried lotus seed pods. To save yourself a lot of time and frustration, call around to local craft stores in your area to have them check their inventory. If you're unable to find a craft store that sells the dried lotus seed pods locally you can find them for sale on craft websites.

  2. Step 2

Plug in your glue gun and give it a few minutes to heat up. In the meanwhile, use a small flathead screwdriver, or similar implement of your choice, and pop out any seeds left in your dried lotus seed pods.

  3. Step 3

Poke a hole through the top of each of your dried lotus seed pods so that you can string them later.

  4. Step 4

Put a drop of hot glue into each of the empty holes in your dried lotus seed pods. Push in alternating red and green craft pom-poms and hold for a second to make sure they adhere. When you're finished, leave the dried lotus seed pods face up to dry for up to an hour.

  5. Step 5

Sting 'em up! Once you've waited for your hot glue to set, use wire, ribbon, yarn or string to make your new dried lotus seed pod Christmas ornaments tree-ready. Just hang them up and wait for the compliments to come pouring in!

Tips & Warnings
  • If the natural-looking lotus pod doesn't appeal to you, you can change the look by spraying the pods with a coat of gold or silver metallic spray paint before adding the pom-poms.
  • Poking a hole through the tops of the lotus pods and removing the seeds both have to be done with a metal instrument and should only be done by adults or under direct adult supervision.
