How to Dispose of a Junk Car
It is not a good idea having a junk car--a car that does not run--just sitting around on your property. It can be a health hazard, since water can lie in it and help breed bugs such as mosquitoes and serve as a breeding area for snakes and spiders. It can even cause injury to exploring neighborhood children. Here are some some suggestions on how to safely dispose of a junk car.

1
Sell it for parts. Even though as a whole the car may not run, there still may be parts that are salvageable. Sell the entire car for one asking price and state that you are selling it "as is" for parts.

2
Take it to your nearest junk yard. This can even earn you a bit of spending money. If you have no way of hauling it, call the nearest junk yard. Ask if they buy junk cars and if they can come and get it. You won't get as much out of it if they have to pick it up themselves, but you should earn something.

3
Check your local newspaper for ads in which people are wanting to buy junk cars. Call any that impresses you and ask how soon they can come to pick up yours.
-
4
Place an ad in your local newspaper stating that you have a junk car for sale. State the asking price, location of the car and the phone number where interested parties can reach you.
-
5
Donate your junk car to a charity who will dispose of it (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
Don't be greedy when it comes time to sell a junk car, especially if someone else is doing the hard work of hauling it away for you.
When disposing of a junk car, if you take out the battery and recycle it at the same time as you do the car, you could make a little extra money.
If your junked car is an older model and you do not have the title for it, make certain you do not need it when of the car.
Some states (such as Ohio) will not require you to have titles for any car that is 10 years old or older.
