Jumping jacks are a great aerobic workout. They work numerous muscles, including the core muscles, helping to build strength and endurance. The one problem many people have is the impact of the jumping jacks. The impact on the knees and back can be painful and often do more harm than good. This problem can be eliminated by the low impact jumping jack.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand straight. Place feet together and hands down at the sides.

  2. Step 2

Hands go from the sides to above the head, touching just above head with the palms facing away from the body. Take one foot and move it outward from the body, just like a normal jumping jack, but without jumping and keeping one foot stationary, while the other goes out from the body.

  3. Step 3

Return the hands back to the sides and the foot back to the starting position. The position should be the same as the starting point.

  4. Step 4

Bring the hands back up over the head, again touching them over the head. This time move the opposite foot straight out from the body, just like in step 2.

  5. Step 5

Begin the process slowly and increase the tempo with each jumping jack completed. Move as quickly as possible to reach the full benefit of a low impact jumping jack.

Tips & Warnings
  • Attempt to mix normal jumping jacks with the low impact jacks to optimize the workout.
  • If there is weakness in the knees, stop the exercise immediately.
