How to Replace the Rear Signal Lights in a Toyota Tacoma
Your Toyota Tacoma is a tough and efficient truck, but when one of its rear signal lights isn't working it becomes a hazard on the road to both you and other drivers. Because of this, you should quickly replace the signal lights whenever they crack or burn out.
Things You'll Need
- #3157A replacement bulb (2005 and later models)
- #1156 replacement bulb (1995-2004 models)

Shut off your Tacoma's engine, remove the keys from the ignition and set the parking brake.

Open the tailgate and remove the two bolts fastening the taillight assembly to the inside of the truck bed. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts if necessary.

Disengage the taillight assembly from the truck by pulling it rearward.

Twist the turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the taillight assembly.

Lift the old bulb straight out of the socket and replace it with the new one. Then, twist the bulb socket back into the taillight assembly.

Test your Tacoma's new turn signal to make sure it works. If it does, bolt the assembly back into place and close the tailgate.

Tips & Warnings
If you need help finding the turn signal bulb socket, check the taillight assembly diagram in Section 7-3 of your Tacoma owner's manual.
Don't touch the bulb socket unless you're sure the truck's electrical systems are deactivated. Doing otherwise exposes you to electrical shock.
