Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the parts and tools in the work area and read the installation manual carefully. Place a sheet or tarp over the truck's interior to protect the seats and dashboard.

    • 2

Hold the shade tray up to the roof interior and poke a screwdriver through the headliner at each corner using enough pressure to dimple to metal roof slightly. Tape the template to the top of the roof using the dimples as a guide. Remove the headliner carefully and set it aside.

    • 3

Drill a starter hole through one of the dimples and cut out the roof with metal shears. Use the template as a guide making sure to be as precise as possible. Smooth the edges with a file and test the sunroof frame for fit. Make any adjustments needed and coat the bare metal with metal primer to resist rusting.

    • 4

Clean the bottom of the sunroof and run a bead of sealant around the lip. Set the sunroof in place and connect the clamping ring and screws taking care not to overtighten or strip the hardware.

    • 5

Assemble the rest of the sunroof per the manual and clean up any excess sealant with a rag. Replace the headliner on the Avalanche, making alterations with a razor knife if needed and clean the new glass panel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Poor quality sunroof hardware is prone to leaking, wind noise and rattling.

  • Installing a sunroof improperly in a Chevy Avalanche can cause irreparable damage to the truck.
