Things You'll Need:
- Ramps or jack and jack stands
- Oil drip pan
- Wrench or socket set
- Engine support fixture
-
Step 1
Run the Camaro for at least 5 minutes to circulate the oil through the engine. Park the vehicle in a stable and flat surface area.
-
Step 2
Drive the vehicle up onto ramps or use a jack and jack stands to raise the vehicle off the ground. Always follow manufacturer's directions when using this equipment to insure your safety.
-
Step 3
Drain the oil from the Camaro by sliding an oil drip pan under the oil pan, located under the car between the tires. To drain the oil, use a wrench to unscrew the oil drain plug on the oil pan. This allows oil to stream out and into the drip pan.
-
Step 4
Use an engine support fixture to support the engine. Once the oil has drained out of the vehicle fully, follow the manufacturer's directions to install the engine support fixture properly. This is necessary since you'll be removing many critical engine support features.
-
Step 5
Remove the negative battery cable, the right and left engine mount to cradle bolts and the right and left lower shock bolts using a wrench or socket set. Also remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt. Each is located on or near the oil pan.
-
Step 6
Ensure the engine cradle is supported with the engine support fixture. Double-check the strength and location of the fixture at this time to ensure strength.
-
Step 7
Disconnect the oil level switch that is located right on the oil pan. Then, remove the oil level sensor from the oil pan and the starter motor using a wrench or socket set.
-
Step 8
Unscrew the front cross member bolts. There will be four bolts to unscrew using a wrench located around the edge of the oil pan to remove, which will then allow the oil pan to drop off.
