How to Get a Liquor License in St. Louis, Missouri

If you own a restaurant, nightclub or other establishment that serves liquor in St. Louis, you are required to obtain a liquor license. Here's how to submit an application and obtain a liquor license in St. Louis.

  • Internet connection
  • Liquor or beer license application
  • Checkbook
  1. Step 1

    Visit the City of St. Louis Liquor License Guidelines website to find the download link for your application. You'll find the application link in the top right hand corner of the page, and also at the bottom of this article.

  2. Step 2

    Download the beer and liquor application. Either print it and fill it out or use Adobe to fill in each field electronically.

  3. Step 3

    Sign the application. Make sure all fields are filled out correctly, and sign and date the application.

  4. Step 4

    Send your application, with a check for the application fee, to the Excise Division at City Hall. The address is: City Hall, Room 416, 1200 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103-2857. This information can also be found on the City of St. Louis Liquor License Guidelines website.

  5. Step 5

    The Excise Division will review your application and send you the license via mail. If you don't receive a response within 3-4 weeks, call (314) 622-4191 for an update.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to apply for a Dance Hall License in addition to a liquor license
  • The typical application fee for a liquor license in St. Louis is $230; fees vary depending on the type of license you need
  • The city of St. Louis states that: "A liquor license will not be issued if the surrounding neighborhood does not support the issuance of the license."
  • Some city ordinances around St. Louis do not honor liquor licenses; it's important to check with the Excise Division for compliance
