How to Tell If Your Man/Woman Is Cheating On You

How to Tell If Your Man/Woman Is Cheating On You thumbnail
Even when someone makes an effort to hide an affair, the truth often comes out.

A cheating spouse rarely comes right out and admits his infidelity. Even when the affair has been going on for a significant amount of time, some people just don't want to be caught, at least not until they make a decision. However, even when a person doesn't want to be caught, he still may unknowingly show signs of cheating to his spouse. If you feel your spouse may be cheating on you, watch for signs that something may be amiss.

Instructions

    • 1

Watch for changes in your spouse's hygiene habits. A man may start to shave more often, wear a new cologne or dye any gray hair. A woman may change her hair color, change her shaving habits or wear more or less makeup. A change in the way your spouse dresses can also indicate that she is having an affair.

    • 2

Track your spouse's time out of the house. While you don't need to know exactly where your spouse is going, the amount of time he spends outside the home will likely increase. He may claim to work longer hours, with no change in his income, or he may pick a fight with you to give himself an excuse to leave the house.

    • 3

Note any changes to her level of privacy. If she had previously allowed you access to her cell phone or email address, but is now hiding her cell phone or has changed her password, the increase in privacy is her way of attempting to hide what she is doing. She may even delete caller ID entries and browsing history.

    • 4

Watch the reaction of mutual friends in your presence. Mutual friends may be aware of something you are not and may act forced or uncomfortable in your presence to avoid spilling the beans.

    • 5

Monitor changes in his overall attitude toward life. For instance, he may become happy and excited when it comes time to leave the house, but then changes to a somber, depressed state whenever he is around you and your family.

    • 6

Watch out if she is suddenly nicer to you than she has been in the recent past. Guilt can cause her to purchase you gifts or pay special attention to you. This is her way of alleviating some of that guilt.

    • 7

Check for changes in your level of intimacy. If you previously had been intimate several times a week and your spouse suddenly shows no interest in being intimate with you, this can indicate that he is seeing someone else intimately. An increase in intimacy may also occur out of guilt.

    • 8

Rely on your instincts. In most cases, if you feel as though something is amiss in your relationship, there is a reason. If you strongly suspect your spouse is cheating, the odds are she is.

Tips & Warnings

  • Proceed with caution if you think your spouse is cheating on you. Keep accusations to a minimum to avoid having him get defensive. Try to keep the conversation calm and rational.
