You can play Windows games on a Mac.

With the switch of Macintosh computers over from the IBM and Motorola-based Power PC chip to the Intel chip, playing Windows games on your Mac has become an easy task. There are a number of ways to run PC games on a Mac without having to install Windows.

Instructions

    • 1

Because of the work done on the WINE project—the application that lets Unix users run Windows applications without Windows—you can now run Windows games on your Mac without Windows using the CrossOver Games application. To get started, download CrossOver Games from the CodeWeavers website. A trial version can also be downloaded so you can try before you buy.

    • 2

Double-click the .dmg (disk image) file you downloaded to open, then drag the CrossOver Games file to your Mac applications folder to copy to your hard drive. Once the file has copied, double-click CrossOver Games in your Applications folder to launch.

    • 3

Select the game wish to install. CrossOver Games manages and installs your games using “bottles” and uses a “bottle manager.” The first window you will see, once the application is opened, will present you with a list of supported programs available to CrossOver Games. Select your desired game and click “Continue.”

Select “New Bottle” and click the “Create Bottle and Continue” button.

    • 5

Select the desired game installer, volume or PC game disc and click “Install.”

    • 6

Select the game you wish to run. To run the installed CrossOver Game from the Finder, go in your Finder to the "Applications/CrossOver" directory and double-click the file. Games can also be launched from the CrossOver Games menu bar in the Mac Finder. Click “Program” to see the games installed and select the game to launch.

Tips & Warnings

  • CodeWeavers keeps a complete list of games that are compatible with CrossOver Games on its website.

Unfortunately, the games we're looking for do not work with Crossover, WINE, or Crossover for games. I had to install Windows using Boot Camp. Good article though. I hope people realize they're not stuck with Windows as their main OS any longer.
