Step 1
Start the look with a wide-brimmed fedora hat. This is a very important part of the Indiana Jones costume. It should be tall-crowned and form fitting. As a piece of insider information revealed in a "making of" documentary of "Raiders of the Los Ark," the hat served a practical purpose for shooting. It allowed stunt doubles to be easily used in scenes without a face showing. However, don't worry about troubling your little adventurer with stunt doubles. He's on his own at Halloween.

Step 2
Think khaki when choosing a simple, button-down shirt. It's casual--the type worn for easy adventure. Get a casual suit for adventure that will be easily camouflaged. Indiana is prepared for the wild. A grown man may want to unbutton the top couple of buttons for his Indiana Jones attire for a more "sexy" version of the character.
-
Step 3
Put on brown pants. These should be durable and well-worn. Indiana was not a fashion model, nor was he interested in displaying his fashion sense. His clothing choices were based on necessity and usefulness.
-
Step 4
Add a brown belt to the costume. It should be well-worn and able to easily hug the pants without standing out. Tie or buckle it comfortably tight. The pants must stay in place after miles of hustling for adventure.
-
Step 5
Grab a brown "gas mask" bag. This is the type of bag that Indiana often carried with him. After all, the man can't have necessities flying out of his pockets when he is racing and chasing. You can put in secret Halloween night accessories in your version of the bag.
-
Step 6
Put on a flight jacket. This should be a traditional, sturdy jacket. There are many "pleather" varieties available that can be purchased inexpensively (see Resources).
-
Step 7
Grab some props. A faux whip is essential. Pick up some artifacts that Indiana found along the way. You could even grab a faux pistol, but that may make some people uneasy around your little one.
