Things You'll Need:
- 2-4 wire hangers
- Wire cutters
- Duct tape
- Pantyhose or nylon knee highs
- Elastic bands or ribbon
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Glitter, fabric paint, sequins, markers, or other wing decorations
-
Step 1
Cut the bent hanging hook off each wire hanger, just above the twist. You will need two hangers for wings with one section, or four hangers for wings with two sections each.
-
Step 2
Bend the wire hangers to the shapes you desire. If constructing two-section wings, the upper section is typically larger than the bottom section. For inspiration, search the internet for fairy wing pictures or examine a picture of your favorite cartoon fairy.
-
Step 3
Attach the wing sections by holding the twisted hanger sections together and wrapping with duct tape until secure.
-
Step 4
Cover each wing section with pantyhose. Cut a leg for each section, or use a knee high for each section. Be careful not to snag the nylon when stretching over the wire.
-
Step 5
Gather the ends in the center where the wing sections are connected with duct tape, and wrap with duct tape to secure.
-
Step 6
Hide the duct tape by wrapping with extra nylon, scrap fabric, or ribbon. Sew in place or tie off.
-
Step 7
Create arm holes by sewing or tying two loops of ribbon or elastic to the center piece of the fairy wings. This allows the wings to be worn like a backpack.
-
Step 8
Decorate the fairy wings with glitter, sequins, fabric paint, markers, or any other embellishments you like.
