Writing an Essay
Writing an Essay

Writing an essay is not a very easy task and writing a good essay is even more difficult. Following steps will prove very fruitful in producing a quality essay and also these are not specifically designed for any particular topic but can be applied to essays on all the topics.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Pen.
  • A Paper.
  • A Creative Mind.
  1. Step 1

    First step is to make a mind map of your essay topic. It entails that everything that comes to your mind regarding the topic must be written down in shape of pointers or bullets. It ranges from words, phrases, relevant terms, and even sentences. For example if your topic is Economy of your country, you will write words like GDP Growth Rate, Poverty, Education, Unemployment etc.

  2. Step 2

    Now you have to categorize your thoughts and make an effective outline, it will not be of great use for the examiner but it will greatly serve your purpose as you will build and structure your essay in a logical sequence with the help of this outline. Continuing the example given above, you will now categorize the essay like this:
    Introduction;
    Present State of Economy;
    Problems;
    Remedies; and finally
    Conclusion.

  3. Step 3

    After you have completed your outline, you will make a draft of the introductory paragraph. Never make more than one paragraph of introduction, it does not matter if this single paragraph goes beyond one page. The introductory paragraph must be very attractive and well organized as it provides the key to the examiner to judge your abilities. After writing the draft write the introduction neatly with necessary changes and rectification of the mistakes found in the draft.

  4. Step 4

    After writing the introduction now you are slightly free to cut loose and spread your creativity in this part of the essay which is known as Body. Your task is to express yourself relevantly. You must provide facts and figures with your own analysis of issues. Every important aspect of the topic must be discussed in separate paragraphs.

  5. Step 5

    After writing the body of the essay, your task is 80 percent completed. But the remaining 20 percent i.e Conclusion is very crucial as it holds the key to leave a lasting impression on the mind of the examiner. Now you will again go back to the rough pages where you made the mind-map, outline and draft of the introductory paragraph and here you will write the draft of conclusion.

  6. Step 6

    Now at last the final step is to neat up your conclusion. The conclusion must be of one paragraph and it should not be of more than 6 lines. The ending sentence should be very catchy as it is vital in writing an effective conclusion.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use idioms and phrases to make your essay more beautiful and eloquent.
  • Try and never make any grammatical mistakes.
  • Be argumentative and provide concrete facts to prove or support your arguments.
  • Never use headings in your essay.
  • Don't use bookish and old fashioned style of writing, try to be original and innovative.
  • Don't just write to ink pages, prefer quality over quantity.
