1
Vacuum the carpet. Your goal here is to pick up as much dry dirt as possible.
-
2
Pretreat the stains. Different products work better for different types of stains. Spray hair spray on any ink stains then blot up with a towel. For coffee stains, glass cleaner can be sprayed then blotted up.

3
Clean the whole carpet. Mix a spray bottle that consists of 1/4 cup of vinegar, 1 tsp. of dish detergent, and top the container off with hot water. Spray the entire carpet and then work the solution in with a hard bristled brush. Do this in a circular motion and work from one side of the car carpet to the other.

4
Allow the solution to penetrate the carpet for thirty minutes.

5
Blot the entire carpet with dry towels. If the weather permits it, leave the windows of your car open until the carpet is completely dry. This should take approximately twenty-four hours. Repeat this entire process at least once every six months.

Very nice how-to for an average car owner who just needs to get the things done, although following the procedure will take the better half of the day and will render the car not usable for 24hours so it should be done on weekends or when you have free time. The step 5 is a bit strange though as it says to use dry towels all over the carpet and leaving the car windows open to allow air dry, although I agree that if one uses a lot of liquid on the car carpet it will need a lot of time to dry out, but this slow air dry of the carpet will leave a bad smell (as the dirt that was behind the carpet is still there and will rot now), but what if we can eliminate the need of using water directly (as in step 3-4) and use a steam cleaner instead it will greatly increase the efficiency of your cleaning process and will require lesser time in drying up, and as it will be super heated water (steam) it will kill all bacteria as well. If you are thinking of having your car carpet cleaned and are unsure on how to do it or want it done professionally (even at your home) call us, we at DetailXperts are experts in car interior, exterior and engine cleaning, and can provide you with steam cleaning services at your home, workplace or other chosen locations.
