Finding the time and motivation to exercise can be challenging, but autumn weather can make it worth your while. There are a couple of advantages to exercising in the fall. First, you don't sweat as much, since it's cooler--which is especially convenient if you only have time to go for a quick walk before a business meeting. Second, the scenery is enjoyable--full of changing leaves and active animals--which helps to keep your mind busy while you burn off the pounds. Read on to learn how to exercise in autumn.

From Quick Guide: Exercise in Autumn
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Walking shoes
  1. Step 1

Walk, rollerblade or ride your bike in the park when the leaves are starting to change. Since the weather is cooler, you can get your exercise before, after or on your way to work. Keep an extra pair of clothes in your car if you are worried about sweating, but you most likely won't if you take a relaxing walk.

  2. Step 2

Visit the zoo with friends and family. The animals usually become more active during the fall, and you will get some exercise as you walk through all of the exhibits. Some zoos have more natural terrain, with hills.

  3. Step 3

Gather your friends or family and participate in a sport like bocce once a week. This will give you something to look forward to during the autumn months, before the snow covers your playing area.

  4. Step 4

Shop at outlet malls where you have to walk around. You probably have to get school clothes anyway, or you may need to update your wardrobe for the fall and winter. You can get your errands done while you exercise.

  5. Step 5

Clean, organize and decorate your home for autumn. All the lifting and walking will help to tone your muscles. Plus, your house will be presentable and clean for the winter, when it comes time to hibernate.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take advantage of the cooler temperatures and fall colors by getting outside.
  • Make weekly plans with friends and family so that exercising becomes something fun to look forward to.
  • If you exercise in the park, remember that it will get darker earlier; you don't want to be in the park after dusk, for safety reasons.
