Repairing a commercial dishwasher is not as difficult as it may sound. Due to the fact that so many people want to try their do-it-yourself skills, the manufacturers have made the recent models of commercial dishwashers very easy to work on. Manuals that are provided are very clear in the instructions for installation and part replacement. In this article, you will learn how to make such a seemingly difficult task turn into a quick, easy and organized repair.
Things You'll Need
- Plumber's seal tape
- Philips screwdriver
- Flat head screw driver
- Dishwasher instruction manual
Refer to the instruction manual. As soon as you have a problem with your dishwasher, refer to the instruction manual. It will have a "troubleshooting" section that will be very helpful when trying to pin point the problem. The manual will also provide you with the information needed for part numbers as well as phone numbers for the manufacturer in case you need some extra guidance as to what the problem might be.
Disconnect the power leading to the dishwasher. Safety is the most important part in do-it-yourself repairs.
Look on the front ot the appliance to locate the removable plate so that you will be able to get to the source of the problem. This plate will allow you to see all of the parts that operate a dishwasher. The plate is usually held on with a couple of screws that are easily removed.
Locate the motor. As soon as the front plate is removed, you will be able to see the motor, as well as the hose, which connects to the water. Sometimes you can tell what the problem is by the sound that the motor is making while it is running. If it sounds like the motor is working, but the water is not draining, then you know the motor is not the problem. If the motor is making a noise but not moving any parts, then more than likely the motor has gone bad.
Remove the dishwasher. If you are having problems getting to the part that is causing the problem, you might have to pull the dishwasher out. Most dishwashers, commercial ones included, will have some sort of bracket that will mount to the counter top. However, before you pull the appliance out, make sure that you have plenty of slack on the power cord, drain hose and the water hose.
Tips & Warnings
- If you are unable to locate the instruction manual for your commercial dishwasher, you can always pull it up online via the manufacture's website or call the local dealer or the manufacturer.
- Commercial dishwashers are usually a lot heavier than a household dishwaher. Be sure that you have adequate help with the project, in case lifting is involved.
