You can make the home page for your web browser anything you want.

Web browsers always set the homepage to a default site. It may not be one that you particularly enjoy, but you've put up with it. Well, you don't have to. You can easily change the home page on your browser so that it opens to the page of your choice. All it takes is just a few short clicks, and your home page will be brightening your day -- or informing you of the latest news -- in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what page you want to be your home page. You may have a search engine that you want to feature as your home page. Or perhaps you want a news site that displays headlines. Or if you're a company, you may want your own website page to be your home page. Whatever your preference is, once you pick a page, copy the address of the page by clicking on the URL address to highlight it and then right clicking. The drop-down menu will include the option "Copy." Click on that option.

    • 2

Open your web browser. In the upper left corner, there will be a menu bar that features a "Tool" menu in IE and Firefox and an "Edit" menu in Safari. Click on this menu option.

    • 3

Go to your home page editing box. In IE, you will click on "Internet Options." Firefox will have "Options," and Safari will have "Preferences." Click on the appropriate link.

    • 4

Change your home page address. The link should take you directly to the page with the home page address on it. (In IE and Safari, it's on the "General" tab, and in Firefox, it's on the "Main" page.) On the page that opens, you'll see a "Home Page" text box with a URL already in it. Delete that URL, and right click in the box. From the drop-down menu, click on "Paste." Then click "Okay" in IE and Firefox, and click "Set to Current Page" in Safari.

Tips & Warnings

  • And lest we forget, select a homepage in Google Chrome by clicking the monkeywrench icon, selecting "Options" and clicking the "Basics" tab. You'll find a box where you can enter the hompage (or several pages!) of your choosing.
