Automobile accidents can be an extremely frightening and unnerving experience. Read below for tips on how to prepare for and what to do in the event of a car accident.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before an accident occurs, contact your insurance company to see if they have a ready made accident form that you can carry in your car. Also consider keeping a disposable camera in the glove compartment so you can document the scene and condition of the vehicles if you ever are in an accident.

  2. Step 2

When an accident occurs, contact the police immediately and call for medical assistance if needed.

  3. Step 3

Obtain the names, addresses and telephone numbers of any injured persons as well as the owner of any damage property and witnesses to the accident.

***If another vehicle is involved also obtain the make, model, license number and insurance company of that vehicle***

  4. Step 4

Do not accept fault for the accident. Only discuss the facts of the accident with police and the insurance companies involved.

  5. Step 5

And finally, contact your insurance company as soon as possible. They can both provide advice and help expedite the claim process.

on 8/21/2008 Good suggestions- another tip I would suggest is carry a disposable camera or digital camera in your car (if you don't have a good one on your phone) to take account of damage and location of the accident- try to get a picture BEFORE the vehicles move, in case there later becomes a discrepancy about who is at fault.
