1
Sweep away the cobwebs and dirt off of your front door and porch. You'll want to start with a clean slate so that your new decorations pop and don't get lost in the clutter and dirt that accumulated during summer. If you have the ability to power wash your home, this can get things sparkling clean.

Visit a local craft store and purchase basic items to create a wreath for your front door. In order for the wreath to last through the autumn, you'll want to buy plastic or silk plants. Start with a basic wreath made from woven sticks, a metal frame or a Styrofoam core. Place silk fall-colored leaves into the wreath. Place the leaves in evenly and space them nicely. Then add accent pieces like fake berries and pine cones. The wreath should be big so that when you put it on the center of the door, it fills the space.

Purchase hay bales and corn husks from a local farm or flower shop. Place a hay bale on one side or both sides of the front door. To frame the door even more and bring attention to entrance, put corn husks on each side of the walkway leading up to the door as well.

4
Accent the top and front of the hay bales with interesting looking gourds and pumpkins. These tie in the colors of the wreath and make your house ready for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

5
Place a spotlight in your yard so that it shines on the front door so neighbors and people driving by can see your decorations. You can also line your door with strands of clear lights for a twinkle effect.

Tips & Warnings
Use autumn as inspiration by using burgundy, yellow, brown and orange in your decorations.
Set up your decorations, then stand in your yard and assess whether or not they are aligned properly.
If you use a spotlight, hook it up to a timer so you don't waste unnecessary electricity during the daytime.
Wreaths, hay bales and corn husks can be heavy, so have someone help you carry them to and from the car.
Make sure the wreath is securely on the door knocker by using metal wire so it doesn't fall on you or others.
