Step 1
Look underneath the seat of your bike. Traditionally, motorcycle oil tanks are directly underneath the driver’s seat. This is common because it is an ideal place to keep the oil tank safe from roadway hazards.
-
Step 2
Verify the tank is under the driver’s seat and directly behind the engine. The oil tank has to be near the engine because the oil tank supplies the engine with the lubrication it needs to keep everything running smoothly.
-
Step 3
Lift the driver’s seat to access the cap of the oil tank. On some motorcycles, you may have to lift a lever to allow the driver’s seat to rise up.
-
Step 4
Screw off the cap of the oil tank to add oil. To check the oil level, use the dip stick located next to the cap. The dip stick on a motorcycle works the same way as an oil dip stick on a car. Some oil caps may have a gauge that shows you how much oil is left in the tank.
-
Step 5
Use certified motorcycle engine oil when you fill up your bike. Motor oil that is to be used in cars isn’t always compatible with motorcycles. If you are unsure, consult a professional. Consistent oil changes and check-ups will maximize the longevity and endurance of your motorcycle.
