The new car smell doesn't last forever. When it runs out, you'll need to keep it fresh on the inside. Use these pointers to help you out.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Odor remover spray
  • Non-abrasive cleanser
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Air freshener or scented car freshener
  1. Step 1

Clean your car thoroughly. Make sure there is no food or drink containers in your car that may be harboring bad odors. Dispose of trash. In addition to cleaning the trash out of your car, wipe all non-fabric interior with a non-abrasive cleanser. You may also want to use a glass cleaner on your windows at this time.

  2. Step 2

Remove the floor mats from the vehicle and set aside. Vacuum all upholstery and carpet completely. Be sure to vacuum under each seat as well. Also vacuum floor mats.

  3. Step 3

Spray the odor-removing spray on all upholstery, floor mats and carpet. The surfaces should be damp to the touch, not soaking wet. Wait until they are completely dry. When the spray dries, it lifts any odors that may be in the fabrics of your car. Once dry, smell a few test spots on the upholstery and carpet to be sure the odor is gone. You may have to reapply the odor remover two or three times to completely rid the car of all odors.

  4. Step 4

Attach a scented car freshener to your car in a place that does not obstruct your windows. On a knob or the handle for the air vents are a excellent places. You may use a scented spray freshener instead, if you prefer.
