1
Choose a pair of cotton pillowcases to monogram. Higher thread count pillowcases make a nicer finished product. Pre-wash the pillowcases to remove the sizing and to make them easier to work with. Dry them without fabric softener sheets.

2
Pick the font for the monogram. You can use fonts from a computer word processing program. Pick a style that you like that is simple. If you are using an embroidery sewing machine, you can choose one of the fonts that came with the machine.

3
Put the monogram on paper if you are making it by hand. Typically the first initial of the last name is in the middle with a couple's first initial on either side. The initial for the last name may or may not be larger.
-
4
Use tracing paper to transfer the monogram you designed to the pillowcases. Center the monogram over the opening of the pillowcases.
-
5
Stretch tear-away stabilizer fabric behind the area to monogram as you put the embroidery hoop around the monogram. Make sure the fabric is taut in the hoop.
-
6
Thread embroidery floss or multiple strands of thread into your needle. Embroider the letters using a satin stitch. Or thread your embroidery machine and let it embroider the monogram.
-
7
Remove the excess stabilizer fabric. Press the pillowcases with a steam iron set on the cotton setting.
