How to Increase Blood Flow Through Exercise
Exercise has many health benefits. One benefit is it increases blood flow throughout the body. Improving circulation is beneficial for overall health and helps the body's organs such as the heart and lungs function better. To get the most out of your next workout and increase blood flow follow the steps below.

Start slow. Warm up before each workout. Warming up properly before moving into aerobic exercise allows blood flow to increase gradually and helps warm your muscles up. Warm up by doing whatever aerobic activity you have chosen slowly. Gradually increase speed and intensity.

Do aerobic activity. Activities which get the heart pumping and increase breathing are considered aerobic. For example running or doing a kickboxing class get the heart beating faster. This increase in heart rate improves blood flow throughout the body.

Consider stretching. Stretching not only feels good, it can improve circulation. Muscles which are loose and warm respond better to exercise. Be sure to stretch all major muscle groups. Stretch gently and hold each stretch for 20 to 30 seconds.

Learn proper breathing techniques. Breathing correctly will help you get full expansion of your lungs and increase the amount of oxygen you take in and aid in improving blood flow throughout the body. Inhale through your mouth and exhale through your nose.

Increase your workout time. The longer you work out the more benefits you will see including increasing blood flow throughout the body. Start with ten minutes of aerobic exercise and increase by two or three minutes daily. Aim for 30 to 40 minutes three to five times a week.
