How to Detect Browser Hijacking With SpywareGuard

A browser hijacker is a malicious software program that infects a computer system and takes control of the Internet browser, redirecting you to sites you didn't intend to visit. Hijackers often reset the default homepage and search engines to clients who pay for Internet traffic. Use Javacool's SpywareGuard free software to avoid being the victim of a browser hijacking.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the Javacool homepage and click on "Downloads" link at the top of the page.

    • 2

Click the "SpywareGuard Download" link and download the program. Install SpywareGuard on the hard drive.

    • 3

Bring up the SpywareGuard program by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and then "SpywareGuard." Or, right-click the program icon in the system tray located at the bottom of the computer screen.

    • 4

Click the "Options" button at the left of the program window and check the boxes provided to enable program protection for the listed items, including browser hijack protection. Click "Save Settings" to set the protections into place and start them running.

    • 5

Close the program window and program console. The program continues to run in the system's background. SpywareGuard detects and stops browser hijacking programs from downloading to the computer as long as the program is enabled.

    • 6

Check periodically for SpywareGuard updates to keep up with new and evolving spyware and malware that might hijack the Internet browser. Click the "Live Update" button to the left of the program console to run an update check.
