How to Tighten or Replace Coolant Hoses in a Kia Spectra
Maintaining the cooling system on a Kia Spectra requires checking the hoses twice a year and replacing hoses at least every four years. Replacing coolant hoses ensures the Kia Spectra won't leave you stranded due to a burst hose. Consult the owner's manual to verify part numbers and sizes.

1
Let the engine cool for an hour after driving and remove the radiator cap. Jack the Kia Spectra's front end up at the jacking points behind the front wheels and set it on jack stands for safety. Place a bucket or catch can beneath the radiator and drain enough coolant to keep leaking to a minimum when pulling the hoses.

2
Loosen the clamps with a pair of pliers for spring clamps or a nut driver for screw clamps. Let the clamps slide to the middle of the hose. Pull and twist the hose ends until they are free of the nipple. Cut difficult hoses with a knife and peel the rubber away from the fittings.

3
Dip the ends of the new hose in clean coolant to ease installation. Place the clamps over the hose and push the rubber ends onto the fittings. Turn the hose around if one end is difficult to get on. Tighten the clamps with pliers or a nut driver.

Check that the radiator drain plug is closed and fill the radiator with coolant. Start the Kia Spectra and look for leaks around the hose fittings. Add coolant if needed when the radiator has circulated.
