Increase Sales on eBay by Offering International Shipping

eBay has over 250 million users worldwide, and 49% of the eBay users on the USA site are located outside of the US. If you aren't offering innternational shipping on your items, you are missing opportunities for sales.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • eBay Account
  • Computer
  • Internet Connection
  1. Step 1

Supply is a problem for consumers in countries around the world. International consumers often have the money to purchase items, but goods may not be readily available in their country. International customers look to the internet to purchase consumer goods. Many come to eBay USA.

  2. Step 2

International customers love American products. Many of our tried and true products such as Levis jeans are popular in other countries but are not available for sale there. Some products new on the market here have not been released overseas yet, and the only place to get them is in the USA, or from a United States seller.

  3. Step 3

To offer international shipping on your item, explain in the item description that you will ship to countries around the world. Ask customers to contact you for a shipping quote - that the quote provided may not be accurate. Let your customers know that you are willing to work with them and help them get the product they want.

  4. Step 4

On the Sell Your Item form, in the section called "Give buyers shipping details," you will see a section for international shipping.

  5. Step 5

Choose "flat shipping, same cost to all buyers." Then click "worldwide," and then click "Standard international rate shipping." You will enter a value here in a minute.

  6. Step 6

Go to USPS.com and get a ballpark international shipping quote for your item. I usually choose a European country, because most of my items go to Europe and this quote will hold true for all European countries. Enter that value in the box next to the dollar sign.

  7. Step 7

Offering international shipping on eBay is easy. You don't have to worry about language barriers. eBay and Paypal do all the translating and currency conversion for you.

  8. Step 8

Even if international customers don't win your item, their bids will help drive the price higher. You will dramatically increase the bidding pool, the final price, and number of sales, by including bidders from around the world..

  9. Step 9

International customers frequently buy more than one item at a time from the same seller to take advantage of shipping discounts. Be sure to give customers a break on shipping fees when they order more than one item. They will buy more from you.

  10. Step 10

International customers often are repeat buyers. Since many eBay sellers do not offer worldwide shipping, once an international customer works with a seller who will accommodate his needs, he will return to that seller in the future to buy more goods.

  11. Step 11

  12. Step 12

Tips & Warnings
  • Give international shipping a try. If you don't see your sales increase, or find that you don't like the process, you can always remove the international shipping item.

on 9/29/2009 International shipping always seemed daunting to me. Thanks for breaking it down a bit and making it seem like something I could do. Thanks! 5*
