Things You'll Need:
- Clear or glass containers
- scraps of fabric
-
Step 1
Don't throw away those little scraps of fabric! They are of great value for those quilting projects or fabric projects that require just a little piece of fabric. But first of all you need to organize these little bits of fabric to put them to better use.
-
Step 2
An artist doesn't put all of his colors into one pot and then hope to dip his paint brush into the pot to find the right color for his painting. Consider yourself as an artist that uses colored fabric instead of colored paints in making a masterpiece.
-
Step 3
An artist has a palette of colors to chose from and organizes them on a board so that each color can be chosen individually. These colors can then be put side by side and mixed to make a new color. To make a fabric masterpiece, your colors need to be organized as well.
-
Step 4
Take a look at the picture above and see how each color family is separated into a different jar to form a fabric palette. This makes your sewing project so much easier when you have a palette of color in front of you to look at and be able to choose the colors you need.
-
Step 5
You can use canning jars, fish bowls or any clear container to make your own palette of fabric. Next time you are rummaging through that box or drawer of fabric scraps, consider making a palette of fabric colors. Your sewing or quilting project will be fun and easier to do. You will find colors of fabric that you didn't remember you had!
-
Step 6
Use your fabric palette in your next quilting project. Foundation Paper Piecing projects are fun quilting patterns to make use your fabric palette.
