How to Treat Hair With Apple Cider Vinegar
If you struggle with oily hair, you know how frustrating that problem can be. Constantly washing your hair seems to be the only solution, but all that does is irritate the condition. The problem lies not with your mane but with the oil-producing glands in your scalp. Treating your head to an apple cider vinegar rinse is a safe, effective way to soak up the oil and remove shampoo residue without irritating those glands further. Calendula sweetens the rinse's scent and conditions your locks. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 Tbsp. dried calendula
- 1 pint boiling water
- 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
- Small spray bottle
Instructions
-
-
1
Put dried calendula in a bowl and pour the boiling water over it. Let it seep for about 10 minutes, then strain the water.
-
2
Pour the apple cider vinegar and infused water into the empty spray bottle. Screw the cap onto the spray bottle and shake the contents.
-
-
3
Shampoo and condition your hair as usual. After rinsing the conditioner from your hair, spray the apple cider vinegar mixture onto your head. Be sure to focus on your scalp, as most oil originates around the base of the hair strands.
-
4
Rinse the vinegar mixture from your hair. Be sure to tilt your head far back so that the rinse doesn't run into your eyes.
-
5
Style as usual. Avoid using products such as gel and mousse if possible. Such products only add to the product build-up on your head and oily look and feel of your hair.
-
6
Repeat apple cider vinegar treatment once a week or as needed.

Tips & Warnings
If you do get the rinse in your eyes, splash warm water into them until the burning ceases.
If you cannot find dried calendula, use lemon verbena instead. Though it does not offer the same conditioning properties, lemon verbena also will give the rinse a clean scent.
Never rinse your hair apple cider vinegar without diluting the vinegar first. Undiluted vinegar can damage the hair and scalp.
